Abstract

A full lengthy X—ray diffraction technique for clayey rock sampling and preparation, clay mineral recognition and interpretation is exhibited. The procedure used illite as an internal standard for clay mineral interpretation. The proposed formula for different clay mineral types, adopted and modified from various publications, are set for a high clay content sedimentary rock. Problems involved in this semi-quantitative method are discussed. The application of proposed formula gives satisfactory results and is not unreasonably time consuming.
