Abstract

DIFRES computer program performs harbour resonance and wave diffraction computations for simple or complex shaped variable water depth harbours with one or more entrances and some islands inside or if outside in the near field of the harbour. A short description of DIFRES numerical model is included. Harbour resonance and wave disturbance studies performed at the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC) in Lisbon, both with physical and mathematical models for the french harbour of Saint Quay-Portrieux, are reported herein. These studies were part of the global studies accomplished at LNEC where several physical models (wave agitation model, sedimentological model, breakwater stability and wave overtopping model) and two mathematical models (REFRAC numerical model for refraction of regular waves and DIFRES numerical model for harbour resonance and wave diffraction computations) were involved. Port of Saint Quay-Portrieux studies were awarded to LNEC after international competion.
