On the separation of second order components for non-linear wave spectra
Abstract
In the present framework, a systemic approach to sea wave behaviour is used to propose a second order solution for irregular waves, solution based on the system characteristic obtained by the classic Stokes non linear solution for regular waves. Then, by means of the system characteristic parameters, an analytical relation between linear and non linear autocorrelation is derived, thus allowing separation between first and second order components, once the spectrum is known. The results, compared with existing theories and flume experiments, confirm agreement with the proposed analysis.
