Numerical simulation of tidal flow and contaminant transport in shallow water bays
Abstract
A finite element method for simulating two-dimensional convective and dispersive processes of contaminant transport in tidal shallow bays is described. The presented scheme has the computational advantages that no matrices for the whole system need be formed or solved and mass continuity for each time step on element base is maintained to reduce numerical errors. Application of the model to the tidal circulation and pollutant transport problems is demonstrated for the case of a real bay, namely Taya Bay, China.
