Computer modelling of oil pollutants transport on the water
Abstract
A computer model is developed to simulate the oil pollutants transport on the waters. The simulation is focused on the physical transport process which includes advection, turbulent diffusion, mechanical spreading and shoreline conditions. The Lagrangian discrete parcel scheme is applied to treat the transport of the oil on the water. The developed program run on the 16-bit or 32-bit PC computer shows that it has a very effective computation efficiency. In addition, the computer model also has some merits such as to simulate instantaneous and continuous oil pollutants discharge and to calculate any irregular shapes of the oil slick. The effects of advection velocity and turbulent diffusion coefficient on the oil spreading area are also investigated.
