Numerical model on buoyant-jet and sea waves ambient
Abstract
With reference to a previous paper, which deduced base equations to describe the interaction between a horizontal buoyant-jet and a wave motion present in the fluid ambient, a numerical technique is described to solve the partial derivative differential equations mentioned above. The calculation criterion used is that of finite difference and, it being a hyperbolic problem, refers to the explicit scheme provided by Keller, Lax and Friedrichs (diffusing scheme). Since the phenomenon under examination is periodic (hypothesis of regular wave motion), the scheme mentioned above is used in a particular form in which the propagation of the solution is calculated in spatial, rather than temporal terms. Some numerical examples, relating to particular cases, highlight the considerable influence of wave motion on the instantaneous geometry of the jet and, above all, on the greater dilution which occurs in the upwelling phase towards the free surface.
