Spectral methods in unbounded domains applied to near shore dynamics
Abstract
This paper deals with three spectral approximations based on expansions in functions defined on the [0,∞) interval: a collocation method using rational Chebyshev functions, a tau type method using Laguerre functions and a collocation method using Laguerre polynomials. We apply them to the eigenvalue problem describing the edge waves on a longshore shear flow. We find the Doppler shift on the edge waves as a function of the Froude Number. We see that upflow edge wave modes exist only for froude numbers up to 0.7.
