A 3-D non-linear boundary element model for wave-structure interaction
Abstract
A three-dimensional (3-D) mathematical-numerical model is developed for determination of the interaction between non-linear water waves and a structure. The model is based on a boundary integral equation method (BIEM) for the spatial solution of a potential theory problem. This solution then provides input to a time-stepping procedure for temporal updating of the boundary. The time-stepping method is based on the fully nonlinear boundary conditions at the free water surface. Computational results are given of the interaction between a wave field and a truncated circular cylinder situated with its axis vertically. Comparisons with experimental results show good agreement.
