Dynamic stability of buried pipelines
Abstract
In this paper, a finite element formulation is developed for the dynamic stability analysis of buried pipelines subjected to periodic varying axial loads. The results obtained show that the beam-mode instability of buried pipelines may take place under seismic excitations for shallow buried pipelines. The loads and regions of instability are presented for the undamped and damped pipelines, and the effects of soil on the regions are investigated also.
