Settlement prediction method for buildings on raft foundations
Abstract
For design of raft foundations, the strain index distribution may be used to consider non-linear stress strain characteristics in prediction of settlement in a relatively straightforward manner. Recent research has demonstrated that clays exhibit considerably higher stiffness characteristics at lower levels of deviator stress. It is therefore important to include consideration of K conditions that have an important influence on deviator stress. These, together with the effects of raft stiffness, can be considered in this relatively simple approach.
