Imitation of punching failure for reinforced concrete slabs in finite element method
Abstract
Punching failure of reinforced concrete slabs is a structural phenomenon of practical and academic importance and has not yet been explained satisfactorily since the experimental measurement of stress and strain on the failure surface is rather difficult. A full-range analysis by finite element method, in which nonlinear characteristics and cracking of concrete are taken into accounts, is presented in this paper, successfully imitating the actual process of punching failure. Information about internal stresses and deformations etc under all load levels is obtained from the analysis, and essence of punching failure pointed out.
