Nonlinear finite element analysis of composite reinforced concrete beams
Abstract
Composite reinforced concrete beams are cast and loaded by two stages. According to the mechanical characteristics of composite RC beams, a finite element analytic model of shear-resistant behaviour on the interface of precast and postcast concrete was put forward using the principle of virtual work. In order to consider the influence of differential shrinkage in composite RC beams, a method for dealing, with shrinkage force by finite element analysis was suggested. Finally, a nonlinear finite element analytic program for composite RC beams was advanced. Seven composite RC beams were calculated by the above program. The computative deflections, stresses for reinforcement bars, cracking loads and ultimate loads were in good accordance with the test results.
