Abstract

Nonlinear analyses in mechanics are well established for two-dimensional problems. However, a few problems are intrinsically three-dimensional and cannot be at all well idealised by any two-dimensional approximation. The need for true 3D analyses has prompted a fresh examination of brick-based finite elements. Some new elements are tested. As in all 3D work, appropriate visualisation of results is essential.
