A theoretical basis for physical models
Abstract
A method of designing small scale models of mine openings is developed. Different scale factors can be used for rock strength, steel supports, yielding elements and rock bolts. Each scale factor reflects the most significant aspect of behaviour and this allows freedom of choice of materials. Methods of measuring the strength and performance properties involved are described. The application of the method to specific site conditions is considered.
