Surface subsidence associated with partial extraction: An Australian case study
Abstract
This paper describes the fieldwork associated with subsidence levelling and Time Domain Reflectometry arising from a research project sponsored by the Australian National Energy Research Development and Demonstraion Programme. The project was designed to examine strata displacements associated with the partial extraction of an underground coal seam. Scaled physical modelling with a Base Friction Rig was used to simulate and quantify the displacements. A novel method utilizing an Intergral Grid indicates how a predictive subsidence technique can be developed from base friction models.
