Abstract

The energy sector in Brazil has become, troughout the last twenty years, and in particular during the period of intense industrialization and development of the agricultural sector in the country, a dynamic pole, having ever assured the energy basis, essential to this progress. One of the characteristics of the Brazilian power supply is that the energy spectrum is divided to three equal parts, i.e. water power, petroleum and all other forms of energy. Another characteristic is the dominating State presence. This sector, having lately gone through a crises, face today some challenges. One of them is the problem, particularly serious not only because of the large investments, but also because the foreign market cannot be reckoned with any possible adjustments to restore the balance between supply and demand. Some particular enterprises had started to solve its own problem, updating the power supply with the gouvernment authorisation to explore power sources. The general conclusions of one analisys donne for an important Brazilian group is indicated, to show that is expected that a greater flow of private savings is essential to irrigate this sector, supplementing the endeavour of the Gouvernment to provide the country with the necessary infrastructure, enabling it to proceed on its trail without major discontinuities.
