Abstract

A study on design, construction and operation of high pressure plugs was carried in the period of 1987 to 1991. Details of more than 30 plugs with static pressure head ranging up to about 1,000 meters were collected and analyzed. While the concrete length varies from 2 to 5% of the static water pressure, the steel lining may be as short as 0.4 % of the water pressure head. The technological development since 1980 is documented by reduced hydraulic conductivity of the plugs.
