Modem tunnelling equipment opens for new project solutions
Abstract
The planning as well as the construction works for the Svartisen hydroelectric scheme are carried out by Statkraft SF, - the owner of the plant. The first plans for the project were presented in the early 70’s. Drill and blast - tunnelling was regarded as the only realistic method, and the technical solutions, operational lay-out and precalculations were based on that assumption. The development of tunnel boring equipment in the following years led to altered operational plans, reduced costs and last but not least, reduced damage to the terrain and improved environmental conditions even for the tunnellers.
