Reducing uncertainty in underground work for the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Project
Abstract
The proposed expansion of the Snoqualmie Falls Hydroelectric Project will require excavation of an approximately 22-foot diameter shaft and tunnel in rock. Such excavations often encounter unanticipated geologic or hydrologic conditions which pose significant safety, construction, budget and schedule challenges. Reducing uncertainties and the associated risks for underground work is a goal which must be considered from the earliest stages of design through construction.
