Lessons from 17 years of environmental monitoring at the La Grande Project, Quebec, Canada
Abstract
This paper will focus on two points; first, the lessons from the mitigative measures and, secondly, the lessons from the environmental monitoring program. The mitigative measures must be designed in accordance with the expressed needs of the Native peoples who use the territory and their pertinence judged on a cost-benefit basis. Other measures could be introduced in locations other than the sites directly affected by the project. We also give our definition of environmental monitoring, its place among other environmental activities and its application for future projects.
