Abstract

AbBTRACP* The Urugua-1 dam is located in the state of Misiones, Argentine Republic. It is a gravity dam, of roller compacted concrete with a low content of cement. Its maximum height is 80 m. and the crest length is 687 m. The seepage control through the dam is performed by a 2 mm thick continuous PVC membrane abutted to concrete precast panels. Behind the membrane there is a conventional concrete wall with a variable width. The use of a PVC lining to make the upstream of a dam of this height impervious, is a new experience, therefore it is considered very interesting to learn about its behaviour after 2 years of operation. The fundamental objective of this paper is to inform the results of monitoring performed with the instruments installed. The seepage, the uplift, the internal pressures, the deformations and the displacements are analyzed and submitted.
