Abstract

This paper describes the wide range of application of a new approach in capacitive sensor technology. Examples, based on data gathered from utilities around the world, show the benefit of this type of sensor particularly in the monitoring of hydrogenerators. The dynamic air-gap measurement system is the first commercially available product using this technology. The direct monitoring of stator bars vibration is also feasible with dedicated capacitive sensors. Many other monitoring problems could be addressed by this growing technology.
