Design and construction of a high pressure concrete plug at the Torpa Hydropower Plant
Abstract
During the last 7-8 years a new method to reduce permanent leakage from high pressure plugs has been developed in Norway. This new multistage grouting technique includes both cement grouting and chemical grouts (epoxy and polyurethane). The grouts are injected under high pressure (50-100 bar). An access gate plug to retain 455 m of water pressure has been successfully installed at Torpa Hydropower Plant using this technique. After commissoning the total leakage from the plug is less than 11/min.
