Abstract

The Norwegian power production system has an installed capacity of about 27 000 MW, 99,2 % of which is in hydroelectric plants. Depending on political concensus and the cost of production alternatives, present capacity may conceivably be doubled. Offshore gas resources amount to about 3.10 12 standard m 3 , 20% of which is developed or decided developed. Potentially, a strong increase can be foreseen in the electricity-related use of gas from the continental shelf, both for export and domestic purposes.
