Abstract

The dynamic production model DYNPRO is presented. DYNPRO is a new type of model for calculating the generation of electricity and its economic value for a cascade of hydropower stations. The program simulates the processes in the waterways between stations in order to calculate the production at each station. DYNPRO can show its capabilities, especially during short term regulation and in river like reservoirs. DYNPRO has two modules; a hydraulic module and a production module. In the hydraulic module a dynamic routing based on the St.-Venant equations is executed. In the production module the generated energy is calculated from the simulated water levels, the turbine flow and the efficiency curve of the turbine. The economic value of the generated energy, the volume of the turbine flow and the volume passing the spillways are also calculated at each station. Typical applications of DYNPRO are discussed. The use of DYNPRO to calculate the benefit from dredging between two stations with short term regulation is presented in detail.
