Effect of normal pressure and width of geosynthetic horizontal drain in pull-out behaviour using saturated clay
Abstract
Geosynthetic horizontal drain (GHD) of widths 50-150 mm has been subjected to laboratory pull-out tests at 30-150 kPa normal pressures to study the interface interaction behaviour between saturated clay and GHD. Three types of failure mechanisms namely pull-out failure, tension failure and compound failure have been identified depending on normal pressure and GHD width. Consolidation characteristics, local deformation of GHD, shear force and shear stress distribution patterns have been examined.
