The influence of mining adjacent deposits on rock pressure dynamics in the Khibini Massif
Abstract
A finite element method is used to study the problem of the stressed state of a rock mass when deposits are developed with two underground mines and an open pit mine. The stress state of the initial rock mass and the stressed states at the following stages of mining are discussed. When large volumes of rock mass are mined out under high tectonic stresses, the reciprocal influence of mining of adjacent deposits on the stress state of the rock mass is shown to be substantial. As a result, technogenous earthquakes, rock bursts and rock mass movements along natural jointing planes take place.
