Combating the rockburst problem - A seismological approach
Abstract
Mining activity is associated with rockburst problems, as reported from a number of mines, especially in deep mines in favourable environment. These rockbursts are like micro-earthquakes and are most feared hazards of excavation. A method has been proposed to utilise these rockbursts in preparation of strain rebound accumulation and relaxation curves. Subsequently these curves may be used to estimate the stress concentration in a mine at a particular instant. Two field examples are given to demonstrate the application of the method.
