Abstract

The first figure shows a network of profiles (real and simulated) all are theoretical. To understand the effect (on processing) which reality makes to a 3-D marine or land survey the ideas of the bin and reflection point are introduced. For this remember respectively the ideas of squares and pawns (used in the games of chess and draughts where the playing board consists of a number of squares where the pawns are put). In these conditions, the theoretical network is that of the first figure, as is established on the location map, the playing board consists of : in the X direction n bins centered on n real profiles and in the Y direction p bins centered on the p simulated profiles (all these bins are square if ΔX=ΔY or rectangular in the opposite case).
