Abstract
To sum up, from a section obtained from a relatively long signal, represented here by its autocorrelation function (a) it is possible to extract the shape which would have been given in the field had the signal been a pulse (SPIKE) - represented below by its autocorrelation function (b) ; however a compromise is made because of the presence of noise. This leads to a section which would be directly obtained if the signal used had been very but not totally compressed - represented here by the autocorrelation function (c). Three waveform profiles labeled a, b, and c. labeled a shows a smooth, single peak curve. labeled b shows a sharp, single peak curve. labeled c shows a narrow, single peak curve. https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href=" https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003761020/e10523ab-dbe3-4c4f-8f3e-863ae3683950/content/pg304_1.tif "/>
