Abstract

The geophysical methods used in mining are numerous, more numerous than those used in petroleum exploration. The types tabulated above are used in mineral ore prospecting (column 3 ) and the applied methods (column 2) are classified in a manner easily studied. Column 4 demonstrates a certain symmetry between the two groups. A passive method nearly always has its equivalent in the active methods. In column 1, it is noted that certain passive methods take advantage of an artificial signal, the signal of radio transmitters. However, as this signal is not output by the geophysical equipment these methods are truly passive.
