Abstract

Rocks are more or less magnetic, that is, they have different magnetic susceptibilities. The following table gives their order of magnitude. • Salt negligible • Dolomite 0 to 20 10 '6 CGS • Carbonate 2 to 200 ” • Sandstone 2 to 1700 ” • Schist 5 to 1500 ” • Metamorphic rocks 0 to 5800 ” • Acid igneous rocks 3 to 6500 ” • Basic igneous rocks 45 to 9700 ”
