Theoretical Basis of Rheological Testing of Clayey Soils
Abstract
The rheological properties of clayey soils, like those of any other medium, represent the ability to offer viscous or viscoplastic resistance to changes in volume and shape. Such a definition of rheological properties of clayey soils is similar to that employed for describing the rheological properties of structural materials (concrete, timber, plastic, etc.). It does not reflect the specific features of a multiphase dispersive soil medium, consisting of a mineral skeleton, pore water and dissolved and undissolved gases.
