Geosynclinal and Platform Regimes of the Earth's Crust and their Relationship with Magmatic Processes
Abstract
Geosynclinal regimes. The year 1989 marks the completion of 130 years since the works of the American geologist Hall were published, which laid the foundation for further study of geosynclines. In the opinion of Hall, the mountain structures emerged at the place of deep-seated troughs, filled with thick beds of sedimentary rocks. The scientist noted that most deformed rocks are associated in space with zones of maximum accumulation of sedimentary rocks. He admitted a causative relationship between burial of sedimentary rocks on the one hand and fold formation on the other. In Hall’s opinion, buckling takes place under the load of sediments.
