Methods of Estimation of Weathering of Eluvial Soils
Abstract
The physical and mechanical properties of rocky soils are determined by the combination of their genetic features, petrographic composition, structure, texture, composition of cementing material and the degree of weakening due to weathering. Rocky soils can be classified as cryptofissured or monolithic (unweathered), i.e., almost untouched by the processes of weathering (they may have hidden or hairline cracks in a particular orientation) and weathered soils, those that have been subjected to weathering to some degree. The latter represent eluvial rocky soils.
