Formulation of Initial and Boundary Value Problems for an Extending Viscoelastic Body
Abstract
Classic formulation of a boundary value problem in solid mechanics of a deformable body assumes that the body possesses a definite geometric shape and size until force interactions are imposed on it, and that any change in shape and size are solely due to the imposition of such forces. However, a situation may exist wherein during application of load the body undergoes a change in its configuration due to the addition (extension) of new elements. Bodies of this type are known as growing or extending bodies.
