Physical modelling of contaminant transport in the unsaturated zone
Abstract
Attempts at computer prediction of movement of dissolved contaminants through the vadose zone are complicated by the non-linearity of many of the parameters involved, and the difficulty in field validation. Centrifuge modelling is presented as a means of providing realistic data for model validation. Theoretical considerations indicate that such a modelling procedure is valid, and this is demonstrated with experimental results.
