Landfills in brickpits – A virtue of necessity?
Abstract
The likely impacts of disposing of municipal waste into brickpits on groundwaters in the Sydney region are considered. The available information on past experiences with this method in the Sydney context was compiled, and this was used to model the likely impacts of leaking leachates into the groundwater. The author concludes that in many cases, municipal waste landfilling is an environmentally appropriate method of reclaiming brickpits.
