Abstract

The South Australian Housing Trust (SAHT) is the public housing authority for the State of South Australia. This paper outlines the involvement of the SAHT in all of the issues associated with land contamination. The evolution of various committees set up by the State Government to consider strategies for land contamination is also outlined. A broad overview is given of the role played by the SAHT in these committees, the methods employed by, and the extent of involvement in the investigation and management of land contamination. The integrated approach adopted by SAHT is considered to have significant benefits for all the processes associated with the establishment and management of residential housing on contaminated land.
