Deformation characteristics and design aspects of coal ash structures
Abstract
Collapse of large disposal dumps under heavy rainfall and resulting mudflows have raised environmental concerns in some countries. Detailed laboratory investigations have been carried out to evaluate the construction potential of a pozzolanic fly ash, with a view to minimising the problem of its disposal. The engineering properties of pozzolanic fly ash suggest its applicability in the construction of embankments, airfields and as foundation material. The paper also presents a simple method by which the critical height of disposal tips may be determined.
