Abstract

An overview is presented concerning the current engineering requirements for remediating chemically contaminated sites in Australia. The paper is written from an applied engineering perspective for the site remediation practitioner. The overview provides detailed information on the three stages of the remediation process, these being site assessment, strategy development, and implementation. Assessments are then provided for each of the many technologies presently available for remediating contaminated soils and groundwater. The application of these remediation technologies in Australia is evaluated and illustrated by a number of case studies.
