From global to local variables in granular materials
Abstract
The significant local variables in a granular material are analysed. A simplified description of these variables are proposed. The relationships linking local and global variables are completely expressed and the internal variables appearing in these relationships analysed and their physical meaning discussed. All these variables and their descriptions are analysed in a numerical simulation. Finally two examples of application are presented: the definition of the global non linear elastic law and the definition of yielding surfaces in a granular material.
