Dissipative behaviour of granular soils
Abstract
This paper proposes a dimensionless parameter EDI (energy-dissipating index), readily obtained from conventional triaxial test on granular soils, that is able to precisely recognize their energy-dissipating ability. The intrinsic dissipation, evidenced by infrared vibrothermography, has been used to interpret the dissipative behaviour of granular soils and subsequently the effectiveness of a dissipating wave barrier.
