Velocity measurements on a tridimensional powder
Abstract
In order to investigate the flowing properties of granular materials, we study the flow under gravity of a granular model system submitted to shear in a rotating cylinder. The system is confined in a vertical 2D geometry which allows direct visualisation of the bulk and measurements of velocity and density fields. From these data we perform averages on one hundred snapshots to extract the mean velocity and density profiles.
