Computer simulated impact of agglomerates
Abstract
Results are presented of computer simulations of monodisperse face-centred cubic and body-centred cubic agglomerates impacting orthogonally with a wall. Computer graphics visualisation is used to identify the fracture and fragmentation processes. Damage is defined by the percentage of initial primary particle bonds that are broken as result of the impact. It is shown that the damage ratio, so defined, is a function of Weber Number, the primary particle to agglomerate size ratio and the packing fraction. Further information on fragmentation is provided in terms of the largest fragment size and the fragment size distribution.
