Abstract

This is an experimental study of the uniaxial compression in a cylindrical mould of a highly deformable binary porous medium composed of expanded graphite and salt. Our aim is to establish correlations for these porous media in the following two situations: - for stress-free, a correlation of specific volume versus the mixture proportions; - for an enclosed volume under stress, another one of specific volume versus the uniaxial stress. By coupling these two correlations, it is possible to establish the stress-strain curve for any proportion of the mixture, and by analogy with the thermodynamics of solutions, to characterize the nature of the contact between particles (attraction or repulsion).
