Abstract

Soil reinforcement method is a relatively new ground improvement technique which strengthens weak area of ground using inclusions whose material properties are known. In this paper two different types of soil reinforcement techniques are introduced. They are micropiling reinforcement and deep mixing method or DMM. In the first type, a case study involving micropile reinforcement, which is one of the representative methods of the natural slope reinforcement, is examined. In the case study described here, the performance during construction is evaluated numerically. A case study which utilizes the DMM was also discussed. According to the large increase in the level of the strength improved by DMM, the soil properties improved should be considered as similar with soil reinforcement. Also numerically discussed are the performance of the composite ground involving DMM.
