Foundation behaviour of a levee in the Po Delta
Abstract
This paper reports studies on the behaviour in time of the foundation soils of a levée constructed in the Po Delta on soft compressible clayey soils. Measurements of their behaviour, taken during and after construction, were compared both with the results of predictions made during the design phase, carried out using ordinary methods for settlement assessment, and with numerical simulation of back-analysis with finite-element programs. This paper also considers the main factors influencing the calculation methods used.
