Planning a fixed link for the Fehmarn Belt by private enterprise
Abstract
Starting with the 21st century, a fixed link across the Fehmarn Belt is to replace the ferries presently carrying passengers, motor vehicles and trains between Puttgarden and Rødby. To this end it is planned to construct a tunnel, bridge or combination of both to cross the roughly 20 km wide strait dividing Germany and Denmark. On private initiative, an international consortium of construction companies and banks conducted a feasibility and rentability study to determine if and how that fixed link could be planned, financed, constructed and operated privately.
