Design of Kurushima Bridge: Aesthetics and aerodynamics
Abstract
This paper describes the design of the three suspension spans of the Kurushima bridge, linking four kilometers of straits, planning, aesthetics, and aerodynamics. Bridge alignment, type selection, and span length are described. The use of computer graphics in studying the tower aesthetics for visual uniformity and continuity is discussed. Towers and the suspended spans aerodynamics considerations during and after construction are presented.
